Starting a social network from a standing start is tough, and by the time member #2 joins, member #1 may have given up hope.

I recommend building a launch list first (like I&#039;ve done to the right to promote my book) so when you do launch, interactions can start right away. Let them know a community is coming, and invite them to secure an invitation, as with this site:

		<description>Hi, any advice about when is the right time to add a social network to a website. if you have a blog or website should you wait until you have loads of hits or subscribers to a newsletter before launching something like a ning subdomain in order to have a chance of populating it and make it look reasonably busy from an earlier stage 

Or should you just go for it early on and accept it will look empty for quite a while as it builds? or will this put people off.
